Description

:iconworldtrain:
My gargoyle child is finally here. :iconsawbplz:

Name:
Mana

Age: 25 (not counting 2,000 years frozen in place)

Height: 6’4’’

Weight: 238 lbs (flesh) 523 lbs (stone)

Creature: Gargoyle

Birthday: June 16

Occupation: Head Chef

Mana didn't start off as the head chef, oh no siree. With the plethora of species that resided within the train, it would take a lot of time to even get a grasp of the culinary talent to serve them all. However, despite the odds, the young gargoyle managed to prove himself by doing his research on the types of nutrition that various dimensions would prepare. With time, he worked his way from being a regular bus boy on the World Train to actually cooking the meals. And hell! He even got the attention of a particular Fitness Demon who enjoyed his healthy dishes! After only a couple more months of proving himself as a capable chef, he was soon promoted to leading the kitchen and helping the staff execute culinary masterpieces.

|| The Dimension of Myatherma: ||

Myatherma is a world blessed with high concentrations of magic via crystals, much of it buried deep within the world’s crust. Much of the realm above ground is ravaged by constant tornadoes and storms, the air too thin and the land too decimated for any proper living. Temperatures would constantly drop to frigid levels and skyrocket to blazing heats, along with giant mountainsides and craggy landscapes that prevent cultivation and travel. While it is a hellish experience on its surface, it is more of a safe haven once one explores the underground. Underneath the dirt lies a plethora of natural water springs, along with easily shapeable ore that soon became homes of the local wildlife. But what was most valuable in this planet were the mana crystals that were spread all over the caverns. These arcane gems are full of high powered energy, capable of fueling the needs of a civilization for over a year with just one shard. However, harvesting them is quite the challenge, as mortal hands can not touch such crystals lest they wish to turn into one as well. Yes, you heard that right. Crystal people. These babies are so highly packed with mana that it can warp the flesh of those who touch it, slowly jutting shards and gems from one’s body until they become the crystals themselves. Locals would often make comments about harvesting their own if they found an oddly shaped mana crystal, yet the value they have makes them all worth the risk of usage. Despite how highly inhabitable the land is above, the species of Myatherma make due by living their days underground.

|| Gargoyles and the Tenalins: ||

Summary:  (Gargoyles were protectors created by the Tenalin, a race of half-reptilian humanoids who were brilliant scientists and inventors. The Tenalin were divided amongst each other via clans, often keeping their intellectual secrets amongst clan members only. This lead to constant fighting over one another’s inventions and resources, until a man by the name of Eurodus Mar invented the gargoyles as a sign of peace and selflessness. He distributed them without siding to any clan, preaching that knowledge and power should be a gift for everyone and not something to withhold from kin.)

Full History: Gargoyles are the protectors of Myatherma, forged from the stone along with being mindless servants meant to fulfill both simple and complicated tasks. This included chores and looking after the estates of mortals; however, they also were capable of partaking in things that would otherwise be life threatening. Whether it be going into mana-infested mines, fighting off the realm’s hostile wildlife, or exploring places unreachable for the Tenalin, their creators and masters, these versatile golems were capable of many feats.

The Tenalins are creatures who bear reptilian-like scales all over their bodies, living their lives in the underground harvesting the mana-infused crystals that reside within the earth. Many of them are spread out around the world, territorial and often hostile to any Tenalins that bear markings other than their own. Despite their primal nature, however, they were brilliant alchemists and inventors, using the abundant arcane energy around them to build their society and improve their well being.

Each clan had specific improvements that they’ve made for themselves, and it was more often than not that other clans would attempt to steal the secrets of their inventions. This lead to consistent conflict for dominance and intellectual welfare, along with the bloody corpses of many Tenalin lives.

However one particular alchemist by the name of Eurodus Mar helped placate the air of war when he introduced the gargoyles. Unlike his selfish kin, he shared his inventions willingly and even distributed the gargoyles to as many clansmates as possible. Mar taught his people how to build them and soon became well known amongst the populace. He also preached that instead of being closed-minded about one’s inventions, they should be spread not only for the well-being of one clan, but for all to prosper. Many soon followed his words and began sharing their wealth in knowledge to other clansmates, ushering an era of peace for years to come.

|| Personality: ||

| Calm | Bashful | Focused | Inquisitive | Thoughtful | Listless |

Mana is a rather simple gargoyle, most times calm when just going about his daily life. Kinda like a rock, y’know? He doesn’t feel it necessary to go crazy with showing emotions when he’d really only show them to those he cares about, namely his master. However, there are times where the young man can get easily flustered over the simplest of things, one particular thing being physical contact. Being sheltered under his master for a majority of his life didn’t give him much chance to interact with others, though during his private moments he’d attempt to talk to the furniture pretending they were people. He’d do his best trying to brush up on his social skills when the right time comes. A bit pathetic, yes, but he made do. Though one of his better traits is that he remains focused when on the job. While not exactly the best gargoyle in terms of combat, once he’s busy with something he’ll see that task to the end. Whether it be washing the dishes, cleaning the living room, or even handling mana crystals he’ll do it with gusto. He’s actually very pleased whenever finishing a task, and more often than not he can pop a smile for a job well done. One thing, however, that he prized doing the most was cooking. Making food for his master brought him a strange sense of joy, always curious about making new recipes for him to try. This was part of his inquisitive nature, along with being thoughtful for those who cares about. He has a deep seated need to impress, not one for taking failure when it comes to helping those in need. Anger seldom came to him, however he could easily become listless when left alone, being one like the stone and sorta just sitting there.

|| History: ||

“I can’t say it’s easy looking back to those old days...the bad memories are still there, y’know? B-but...there were some good ones! I know there were...and those I can say are worth telling.”

Summary: Long term peace could not be kept with Myatherma, and the gargoyles were thrown in the front lines in order to fight for the many factions in the realm. Many were eliminated, but the casualties of the actual Tenalins were an astronomical number. A young boy barely escapes death, almost about to perish upon the cold ground before a benevolent stranger rescues him. This stranger, being the descendant of the famous Eurodos Mar, puts this child with the last known golem possible to create another gargoyle. However, this one was different as it contained both the properties of flesh and stone. The young boy was now awoken as a gargoyle, albeit one with its own thoughts and personality.

The gargoyle would come to serve the descendant of Mar for many years to come; handling chores, harvesting mana crystals, and caring for whatever ailment the researcher went through. However, an outing on the field soon turned into a bloodbath as Mar was killed by rogue Tenalins. Mana came to his master's side when it was too late, weeping and unleashing a heavy amount of magical energy. He sat in stasis for 2,000 years before finally emerging as he once was, only now the body he held was a skeleton and the ruins of his home were now desolate and empty. The gargoyle would wander alone within the caverns of Myatherma, soon finding Mar's home once again. He reads whatever he could and learns whatever possible before deciding to embark on a journey to the surface, his home no longer welcoming as they were nothing but hallowed halls. He takes the name of his mentor, Manaclytes Mar, and cuts it down to Mana, figuring the essence of what keeps him alive would suffice as his title. Days of trekking through ruins eventually lead him to the tremulous surface of his world, storms and winds raging aplenty. It was here he found the World Train waiting for him, and here he set upon a new journey.

Full History:

Prologue: The Brink of Destruction

The long term peace that lasted thanks to Eurodos Mar’s demonstration to the world had proved an amazing period of growth for the Tenalins. Technology grew fast as different ideas were shared amongst the clansmen of various settlements; feats in medicine, crystal harvesting, and agriculture better improved the lives of the underground people. However, the biggest accomplishment for the race was the introduction of gargoyles, as they were an invaluable source of labor and protection against the creatures of the deep. While this prosperous time dragged on for many years, even passed old Mar’s lifetime, tensions began to stir. Such grand times led to the Tenalins overpopulating the dense caverns of the underground, and soon resources began growing scarce. Clansmen severed ties with each other in the hopes of strengthening their specific people, and chaos reigned for the Tenalins as war soon broke out. The gargoyles were used for the purpose of fighting in this war, and many were eliminated because of the need to protect lives.

Part I: The Young Boy

When gargoyles grew scarce, the Tenalins ravaged each others’ clans, destroying settlements and wreaking havoc in the underground. Victims of many ages were claimed within the rubble and corpses, one of which was a young six year old boy.

On the brink of death, the child had already lost his parents in the earlier scuffle against a rival clan. His home in shambles, the boy aimlessly crawled on the floor pleading for anyone to help. No one came, the wounds caused by the invaders slowly taking him into eternal rest. However, help did finally come when a weary man no older than twenty five happened to have found the boy on the floor, blood seeping into the ground. The young man found out that the boy was still alive, however barely, and took him back into his hidden abode in the hopes to save him.

It seemed too late, however, as the boy had little time before he would perish to his injuries. Angered by the futility of it all, the man cursed and wept until he came upon a realization. The gargoyles. Little did anyone know that the man who saved this young boy was none other than Manaclytes Mar, a descendant of the famous gargoyle inventor of long past. Manaclytes was blessed to have one last gargoyle vessel to use, and while he’s never implanted another soul within the stone husk, it was worth a try.

Part II: The Being of Stone and Flesh

It took days of forging mana crystals and stone until Manaclytes finished his task, soon putting the boy within the armor of rock and pouring the molten arcane energy with him. Although magic was unstable and unpredictable, this was something that the forger had hoped for for the sake of the boy’s life. A blinding light soon followed the immediate forging, and a being of both flesh and stone arose from the molten lava. It was here that the gargoyle was alive, and more so than any other that preceded it. He could not remember anything from his past life, and while subservient to the master before him he also contained a soul. One that was evident in the way the young gargoyle moved and breathed.

Manaclytes soon took the boy as a young disciple, waiting out the war and using him for tasks around the household and around the underground. Whether it was harvesting mana crystals, scouting for dangers, or even taking care of intruders, the powerful gargoyle was able to be of much usage for the forger. However, the forger treated the young gargoyle as if he was his own son, remembering the little boy he had to kill in order to bring about the life before him. The gargoyle, in turn, loved to serve his master. He would cook, clean, and do whatever he bidded in order to preserve the smiles his master would give him. Years would go by as the war continued to rage on, and on a brief leave for research purposes Manaclytes fell to a rival Tenalin’s blade. Bleeding to death, his master would not return to his house, leaving the gargoyle to watch over it in his stead.

Part III: The Period of Silence

The gargoyle waited. Waited for what seemed like eons before finally discovering his master’s fate. On a search around the deep caverns, the boy of stone found the looted corpse of his deceased surrogate father, throwing him into a fit of helplessness and despair. To a gargoyle, they live to serve their masters. And for one who has emotion even more so. The gargoyle wept, and wept.

And wept…

Until he remained dormant from the sheer tragedy of it all. Eons truly passed as two thousand years would go by until the gargoyle came active once more, a deposit of mana trickling unto him to awaken him from his slumber. When he awoke, there was no more war. No more fighting. Just ruins left in his wake. He would go about three years of his life wandering the endless caverns of the underground, hoping for some form of life to greet him.

It never came.

Soon the gargoyle retraced his steps and found himself returning to his decrepit master’s abode, scanning the dusted shelves and the tattered books. One particular document came to his attention as it contained the name of his master from so long ago. The one he loved with all his heart.

Manaclytes Mar.

As the gargoyle was taught to read in the past, he deciphered the words and decided that with no name, he would bear the name of his master. Although not completely, the gargoyle now decided to name himself…

Mana

The being of stone would continue wandering the ruins of a once prosperous civilization, carrying with him the many tomes that his master had left him. He had learned to use magic, along with cooking the many meals that were left for him to study, even if no one was there to eat it but him. Mana would do this until he happened upon an ancient highway, following it until he saw a blinding light at the end of the tunnel. He would walk towards it and find himself out of the underground world he called home, seeing a realm wrought with storms and dust. Before it could claim him, however, a distant locomotive whistled from the blinding dust clouds, almost as if it was beckoning Mana to approach it. It was here that he had found the World Train.

And here he found himself a new home.

|| Skills/Weaknesses ||

Skills:

Mana Manipulation:
Although minor, the aptly named ability allows Mana to freely control the very essence of magical energy within him. He can output it as an explosion of light, or various elemental conjurings. The indents on his body glow whenever he charges himself with the mana within.

Enhanced Strength/Constitution:
Because of the stone-like, mana infused skin that the gargoyle owns, he is capable of tanking multiple hits without any sort of issue so long as his mana reserves are full. If not, he can at least withstand what a sturdy boulder can, which might not be much considering the strength some train denizens possess. Speaking of strength, Mana can channel power into any of his limbs, allowing for devastating blows whenever necessary.

Limited Flight:
Even with someone as heavy as he is, by using the mana coursing through his veins he can enable himself to fly. He can only do it for a couple of minutes before tiring out, so it's more a last resort in case he needs to accomplish something dire.

Weaknesses:

Water:
No, he'll be perfectly fine if you spray him with water. How do you think he handles most of his dishes? Water is an issue in large bodies, as he can sink like a rock with low enough mana reserves.

Mana:
Speaking of mana, it's also an issue when he runs out. Sure he can eat, but it does little to sustain the body he sports. Mana can siphon the energy necessary to keep himself alive via crystals and other such ore, but other than that he can get sluggish or even outright go into another 2,000 year hibernation without the right amount of mana.

- Despite being rather clean in all other regards, his own room is cluttered and needs a good sweep.
- Mana usually enjoys silence, but company is a treasure he plans on hanging on to thanks to his many years of loneliness before finding the Train.
- Aside from being able to cook wonderful dishes, Mana is also an all around handiman since he's a great learner. Most mechanical issues are still beyond him, but you can always trust him to unclog a toilet or dust the whole train if need be. In fact, when does this guy ever take a break!?

Mana was hard at work with the rather bulky order, hands multitasking to ensure he wouldn't let them wait too long. Punctuality and quality were the hallmarks of being a good chef! And it wasn't like he'd skimp on either of those things. The meat-related dishes seemed pretty easy enough, he's made eggs and bacon before. Though the pancakes proved to be a bit on the tougher side, having to be made with some of the raw eggs and the flour and a couple of other things. His arms worked tirelessly, however, intent on making the best damn pancakes possible. His ears twitch a bit at the mention of hot chocolate, not exactly sure what that was. The coffee was already brewed along with some ready-made sugars and cream if need be, though it certainly piqued his interests to try out this mysterious drink. "Hot...chocolate?" He sort of blurted out, not even realizing it was within range of the two. He gets a bit flustered and cracks the egg too hard against the pan, eyes wide as he takes no time dawdling in cleaning the mess. "S-sorry, got a bit distracted there. Never heard of that drink." He takes two platters and brings them over to the girls; the eggs, bacon, and toast being ready along with one big cup of warm coffee. The smell of the food wafted ever so gently, a visible steam and the noteworthy aroma filling his nostrils. "There's the first round, eat up."
